It is with great sadness that we have to report the passing of Ingrid Oberheiden, mother and mother-in-law of Andrea and Wyman, grandmother of Little Glenny and wife of the pony farm's landlord Johann Oberheiden. Ingrid Oberheiden celebrated her 78th birthday at the clinic yesterday with her family being around her. The next morning she passed away due to a serious illness. There will be no horse riding lessons today.
Ingrid Oberheiden was born as Ingrid Auguste Anna Rath on April 24th, 1939 to Klara and Karl Rath in Kiel, Schleswig-Holstein. Karl Rath barely had a chance to see his daughter and got killed in Poland or Russia during WWII. Andrea's mother and grandmother played a major role in her interest in Jewish culture as she grew up listing to horrifying stories about the destiny of her mother's and grandmother's Jewish neighbors in Kiel during the Holocaust. Andrea's grandmother tried to hide a young Jewish woman in their apartment, but eventually the Gestapo found her. Only because one of the Gestapo officers knew Andrea's grandfather personally, nothing happened to her grandmother and mother once the Jewish woman was discovered and unfortunately deported. Andrea's and Wyman's farm is the farm Andrea grew up on with her parents and brother.
